Subject: Concern regarding the interests of farmers and workers in the context of the India–USA Trade Agreement

To,
Hon’ble Prime Minister of India,

Respectful greetings.

As a conscious Indian citizen, I wish to place before you my serious concern regarding the future of farmers, workers, and the poor in the context of the India–USA trade agreement. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose had clearly stated that political freedom remains incomplete unless the nation becomes economically self-reliant. Similarly, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar warned that no democracy can survive without social and economic justice.

Today, there is a growing apprehension that trade agreements such as the India–USA deal may weaken the Minimum Support Price (MSP), increase pressure on the Public Distribution System (PDS), and create the risk of increasing corporate control over Indian agriculture, markets, and price determination.

Indian farmers are already struggling with rising production costs, water scarcity, and market instability. In such a situation, competing with subsidized foreign agriculture and multinational corporations becomes extremely difficult for small and marginal farmers.

I humbly request that:

  • The interests of farmers and workers be given the highest priority in any trade agreement
  • Constitutional protection for MSP, PDS, and local agricultural markets be ensured
  • Farmers’ and workers’ organizations be widely consulted in such decision-making processes

This letter is not an act of protest, but a responsible citizen’s concern expressed in the national interest. I sincerely hope that you will give this matter serious consideration.

Respectfully,
Arun Ramchandra Pangarkar
