Subject: Strong objection against the unjust decision of extending workers’ duty hours to 12

Respected Prime Minister,

The decision taken by the Maharashtra Cabinet to extend the duty hours of factory workers from 9 to 12 is totally unjust and anti-worker. Workers are not animals; they are human beings, and they deserve dignity, justice, and humane working conditions.

On one hand, government employees work for only 7–8 hours a day with high salaries, abundant holidays, and various facilities. Yet, their work is often marked with inefficiency and corruption. On the other hand, the common workers, who contribute with honesty, hard work, and physical labour, are being forced to extend their working hours to 12. This is nothing but exploitation.

Workers are the backbone of our nation. Without their sweat and sacrifice, industries and the economy cannot survive. Instead of rewarding their commitment, the government is punishing them with laws that will destroy their health, family life, and dignity.

International Labour Standards clearly recognize 8 hours as the maximum working time in a day. Extending it to 12 hours is a reversal of the historic struggle of workers who sacrificed their lives for the principle:

“8 hours work, 8 hours rest, 8 hours for ourselves.”

We strongly demand immediate withdrawal of this unjust law and formulation of policies that ensure:

1. Strict implementation of 8-hour duty.

2. Health and safety protection for all workers.

3. Equal accountability and discipline for government employees as well.

मुख्यमंत्र्यांना पत्र (मराठी)

विषय: कारखान्यातील कामगारांच्या कामाचे तास १२ करण्याच्या निर्णयाविरोधात तातडीची मागणी

मा. मुख्यमंत्री महोदय,

महाराष्ट्र मंत्रिमंडळाने कारखान्यातील कामगारांचे कामाचे तास ९ वरून १२ करण्याचा घेतलेला निर्णय कामगार वर्गासाठी अन्यायकारक व घातक आहे.

सरकारी कर्मचारी ७–८ तास काम करतात, सुट्ट्यांचा डोंगर आहे, पगार व सुविधा अफाट आहेत; परंतु त्यांच्या कामात प्रामाणिकपणा व कार्यक्षमतेचा अभाव असून भ्रष्टाचाराचा महापूर दिसतो.

त्याउलट, कामगार प्रामाणिकपणे, घाम गाळून आणि जीव धोक्यात घालून देशाला उत्पादन देतात. मग कामगार काय ढोरं आहेत का? कामगार माणसं नाहीत का? मग हा दुजाभाव का?

हा निर्णय अयोग्य ठरण्याची मुख्य कारणे:

1. आरोग्यावर परिणाम – १२ तास सतत काम केल्याने शारीरिक व मानसिक आरोग्यावर परिणाम होतो.

2. कुटुंबीय जीवनावर परिणाम – कामगारांना कुटुंबासाठी वेळ मिळत नाही.

3. आंतरराष्ट्रीय मानके – ILO नुसार 8 तासाचा दिवस मान्य आहे.

4. शोषण वाढते – अधिक उत्पादन कमी पगारात मिळवण्याचा प्रयत्न.

5. ऐतिहासिक विजयाचा विश्वासघात – "8 तास काम, 8 तास विश्रांती, 8 तास आपले".

आम्ही विनंती करतो की हा निर्णय तात्काळ रद्द करावा आणि कामगारांचे हक्क, आरोग्य व कुटुंबीय जीवन यांचे रक्षण करणारी धोरणे जाहीर करावीत.

प्रधानमंत्री हेतु पत्र (हिंदी)

विषय: मजदूरों के काम के घंटे 12 करने के अन्यायपूर्ण निर्णय के विरोध में

माननीय प्रधानमंत्री जी,

महाराष्ट्र कैबिनेट द्वारा कारखाना मजदूरों की ड्यूटी 9 घंटे से बढ़ाकर 12 घंटे करने का निर्णय पूरी तरह अन्यायपूर्ण और मजदूर विरोधी है। सरकारी कर्मचारी 7–8 घंटे काम करते हैं, छुट्टियाँ अपार हैं और सुविधाएँ बहुत हैं; परन्तु उनके काम में ईमानदारी व दक्षता का अभाव और भ्रष्टाचार दिखाई देता है। इसके विपरीत मजदूर पसीना बहाकर ईमानदारी से काम करते हैं।

यह निर्णय अनुचित ठहरने के प्रमुख कारण:

1. स्वास्थ्य पर प्रभाव – 12 घंटे लगातार काम करने से मजदूरों के शारीरिक व मानसिक स्वास्थ्य पर प्रतिकूल प्रभाव।

2. पारिवारिक जीवन पर प्रभाव – मजदूरों के पास परिवार के लिए समय नहीं।

3. अंतरराष्ट्रीय मानक – ILO ने 8 घंटे कार्यदिवस स्वीकार किया है।

4. शोषण बढ़ता है – अधिक उत्पादन कम मजदूरी पर लेने का प्रयास।

5. मजदूर आंदोलन की विजय पर चोट – "8 घंटे काम, 8 घंटे विश्राम, 8 घंटे अपना" को धोखा।

हम दृढ़तापूर्वक मांग करते हैं कि यह निर्णय तुरंत वापस लिया जाए और मजदूरों के स्वास्थ्य, सुरक्षा व सामाजिक जीवन का सम्मान सुनिश्चित किया जाए।
