Chemical-Free Farming: The First Battle of Organic Agriculture

Organic Farming = Healthy Life

— A Truth Realized Through Experience

Today, when we speak of “health,” what comes to mind are pills, medicines, medical tests, and hospitals. But the real question is — why are we falling ill so frequently?

When I began asking myself this question, I realized that the problem does not begin in the human body — it begins much earlier, directly from agriculture.

Chemical Farming: Increased Production, But What About Life?

After the Green Revolution, fertilizers like urea, DAP, pesticides, and weedicides were widely promoted. Food production increased and food became cheaper — but the hidden cost has been paid through our health.

  • Soil has gradually become lifeless
  • Crops have lost their natural immunity
  • Pests and diseases increased, along with farming costs
  • Humans slowly turned into permanent patients

The nitrogen-based chemical production capacity developed after World War II was later redirected toward agriculture. While this initially boosted yields, over time it led to the depletion of organic carbon, soil microorganisms, and natural balance. Today, the question is no longer only about production — it is about the health of the soil.

Questions Began to Arise…

I personally observed that even people who use toothpaste suffer from tooth decay, those who consume chemically grown food face digestive disorders, and food stored for long periods in refrigerators does not suit the human body.

During this phase, I came across the thoughts of respected Rajivji Dikshit. One question of his stayed firmly in my mind:

If we want healthy humans, shouldn’t our food be healthy first?

What Is Organic Farming?

Organic farming is not merely about avoiding chemical fertilizers. True organic farming is about keeping the soil alive. Unless land is freed from the grip of chemical dependency, genuine organic farming is not possible.

The Organic Farming Chain

Living Soil → Healthy Crops → Pure Food → Healthy Humans

Weeds and Pests: Enemies or Indicators?

Weeds and pests are often treated as enemies of farming. But from nature’s perspective, they are indicators of soil and crop health. Wherever soil is weak, imbalanced, or stressed by excessive chemicals, weed growth and pest attacks become more severe.

Weeds indicate soil structure, moisture levels, organic matter, and microbial activity. Some weeds protect the soil surface, prevent erosion, retain moisture, and add organic matter. Therefore, organic farming focuses on weed management, not total weed eradication.

Similarly, pest infestation is a signal of weakened crop immunity. Chemical fertilizers accelerate growth but weaken a plant’s natural resistance, making it attractive to pests. Instead of killing pests, strengthening crops is the sustainable solution.

Nothing in nature exists without purpose. Weeds, pests, and diseases are not enemies — they are warnings of ecological imbalance caused by human interference. Understanding these signals leads to healthier, more sustainable, and low-cost farming.

Changes Felt in Daily Life

As my thinking about food changed, changes became visible in daily life. Fresh, simple food began to suit my body better. Digestion improved and dependence on medicines reduced.

With conscious changes in habits, results followed. Rinsing the mouth with alum water reduced dental issues. Milk or buttermilk gargling created a feeling of natural cleanliness. Reducing excessive use of pressure cookers and refrigerators improved digestion. These changes did not happen overnight — but mindful efforts made a clear difference.

Is 100% Organic Farming Immediately Possible?

The honest answer is — No. But gradual, planned transition is absolutely possible.

  • Begin organic practices on 1–2 acres
  • Gradually reduce chemical fertilizer usage
  • Use farmyard manure, crop residue, compost, and bio-inputs like Jeevamrut

Organic Farming Is a Way of Life

Organic farming is not merely a farming method. It is a lifestyle that connects farmers, consumers, and nature. Weeds indicate soil conditions. Pests increase when crop immunity weakens. Excess nitrogen makes crops tender and vulnerable. Thus, pests are not the problem — they are warnings.

Conclusion

Organic Farming = Healthy Life

This is not a slogan — it is a truth realized through experience. If we want a healthy future generation, the journey of change must begin with agriculture.
